Vocational Arts

Auto Mechanics 1
An introductory course designed to give the student a basic understanding of the automobile. Main emphasis is given to the internal combustion engine, its components, operation, and service.

Digital Design – 1
Digital Design is a two-semester, project-based curriculum that teaches digital communication skills in the context of the professional print design and development process, using the Adobe CS3 print design tools Photoshop and InDesign.

Home Repair – 1
Homes are in constant need of upkeep and repair which can be costly. This lab course is designed to give the students the skills and techniques needed to maintain, repair and make improvements on their own. These skills include carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and electricity to name a few. This is also an opportunity to introduce to the student many potential career options.

iLife – 1/2
iLife is a one semester, project-based class that familiarizes students with Mac computers. Specifically, students will learn to create pod casts, design web pages, create and edit video, and organize and modify digital images.

Introduction to Horticulture 1 (Offered alternate years)
This lab course is designed to acquaint the student with the art and science of horticulture. Topics covered will include vegetable gardening, greenhouse science and management, plant propagation, soil science and fertility, landscape design and maintenance, and floriculture. Biblical, Spirit of Prophecy, and contemporary agricultural philosophy will be examined. Field trips and hands-on outdoor activities are required. Suggested prerequisite/corequisite: Biology I.

Lifeskills – Up to 1 credit
The purpose of this course is to increase student knowledge and ability in skills necessary for everyday living. Topics included will be self-assessment relating to others, post secondary education, career testing and exploration, employment, consumerism, money management, housing, food, marketing and preparation, clothing choices and care. This course gives the type of knowledge needed by everyone for everyday living.

Woodworking – 1/2
This class provides an introduction to the proper use and application of tools used in the workshop with emphasis on safety. Students are introduced to various types of hardwoods and softwoods, along with joints and techniques used in furniture making. They are given the opportunity to make several projects and are involved with these projects from beginning to end.
